Inclusive special education support at Pinehurst School

Additional Services

Pinehurst embeds an array of services to fully meet the learning needs of special education students, talented and gifted students and English language learners. Every student belongs. All are welcome here!

Special Education:

Special education students at Pinehurst School are fully integrated into general education classes. General education teachers have experience and training in teaching special education students. Additionally, we have a Coordinator of Student Services through the Southern Oregon Educational Service District (SOESD) that helps manage their Individual Education Plans and other accommodations. The Southern Oregon ESD also provides specialized student services including:  Psychological / Behavioral Services, Speech – Language and Audiology Services, Administrative / Support Service, and Behavioral programs.

Talented and Gifted:

Talented and Gifted (TAG) students are an important part of every school community across Oregon. In Oregon, districts and schools must plan for how they will meet the academic and social-emotional needs of TAG students, specific to their local context, and communicate these plans to the students and families they serve. Pinehurst's small intimate setting and individualized attention allow TAG students to excel.

English Language Learners:

Pinehurst School uses a variety of research-based approaches for educating English learners. Elementary students receive English Language Development (ELD) instruction via ELD Pullout as well as receiving sheltered English instruction in their core classes. Our lead teacher provides ELD Pullout support and is currently working toward her ESOL Certificate at Oregon State University.
